My sweetest friend passed away yesterday. He wasn’t sick, he just died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep. He was almost 12 yo. Gary, (or G Man, G Money, Gare Bear) is the only kitty I’ve known who would play fetch, but our favorite game was hide and seek. He was super smart, loyal, loving, anxious and neurotic. He was well-traveled, accompanying me on most vacations in the car or on the plane, and braving big moves across the country twice. He loved his solitude and his family, but life outside of his home and encountering strangers was always scary for him. Named for SpongeBob SquarePants’ pet snail, Gary became a part of my family when I was 23, and I always joked, he is still my longest committed relationship. He was gentle, weird, special, and introverted. Misunderstood by everyone but me. He is so missed, and forever loved.
