Sage Elaine Hearne

2006 - 2021

Sage Elaine Hearne (Boo) crossed the rainbow bridge on December 16, 2021 5:31pm. She was surrounded, loved on, and held by her mom and dad until her last breath.

Born on May 12, 2006, in Indianapolis, Sage was the smallest of the litter, but boy was she the cutest. She was taken home and immediately given a bath, which determined that she HATED baths. Sage learned quickly that I had a soft spot, as she would whine, cry, and howl until I let her out of her cage. That is when my bed became hers, up until her very last day.

Sage lived a full life of adventures. She was indeed my sidekick. Sage traveled with me to Texas to visit my sister and experienced the beach and ocean in Florida with her Mimi and me. She spent countless weekends camping with her parents and Grandma Shelly, and she was the unofficial mascot for the State Fairgrounds at one time. She spent almost a month with me out at the State Fair, where she was fed hot dogs, scrambled eggs with a fork, and pizza by my fellow officers. She spent many overnights with me working off duty at the Mecum Auction. What dog can say they played ball between 16 Pace Cars worth over a million dollars? Sage walked on the auction floor, jumped in a Lambo, and even walked amongst the crowd where some thought she was an actual K9. Officer Fountain stuck a badge on her collar and let her feel like she was hot stuff that day. She pranced around the crowd like she was on a mission, but you could tell she loved all the attention she received.

Sage loved golf cart rides at the fairgrounds and her Mimi and Pop Pop’s farm. The farm was probably one of her favorite places to be; as if you said the word “Mimi’s,” she immediately got excited. She could roam, poo next to Pop Pop’s grill while he cooked, smell all the smells, and get spoiled by her grandparents. Sage was not a guard dog by any means, as she would let the HVAC man come into the house when her parents weren’t home and pet her. However, she would lose it if her mom was not in eyesight.

Sage stole many hearts in the 15 years and 7 months she was here with us. She was my shadow that gave me unconditional love through all the heartache, grief, and joy we experienced together. She kept me warm on many cold nights as getting under the covers (or “unds,” as we called it) was one of her favorite ways to sleep. She was one extraordinary dog, even with all her quirks. There aren’t enough pup cups in the world that could repay Sage for the happiness and love she gave me. Saying goodbye to Sage has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life, but she will always have a piece of my heart, and her presence in our home will always be there (probably because of the never-ending dog hair).

Life will not be the same without you Boo.

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”
