Sydney

2002 - 2019

It's with a heavy heart I share with you that I said to goodbye to my sweet baby girl Sydney last Saturday. She'd been dealing with bad kidneys for years and it progressively worsened over the last month.

I am incredibly lucky to have been her mom for 14 years, but it sure went by too fast. I rescued her almost exactly 14 years ago in 2005 when I lived in Birmingham, Alabama, when she was 2 1/2. She was part Cocker Spaniel, part American Eskimo, with a few other mixes. Sydney had the sweetest, quirkiest disposition and we fit together like two peas in a pod. Such a big personality for such a little pup!

I'm happy she's in peace, but it's so hard to figure out my new normal without her. What a gift that she lived for 16 1/2 years and I got to be a part of her life for almost all of it.

Our last night together was "pizza and a movie" night (I had the pizza). Sydney enjoyed chicken, cheese, and her favorite peanut butter treats. We took one last walk around her yard. The next morning we woke up early and parked ourselves in front of the open storm door, her favorite neighborhood-watching spot, and watched the sun rise.

For those that knew her, thank you for loving her. For all the texts and phone calls to my mom and friends, thank you for lifting me up at my hardest point. To her vets, thank you for caring for her all these years. Thank you for guiding me through a tough, tough decision and being incredibly kind and compassionate in the process.

To Sydney, I love you to the moon and back, forever and always. 💙 🐶
