K9 Abby

2003 - 2015

Abigale Mary’s Valentine, “AKA Abby” was a Giant Schnauzer who was trained in narcotic detection. She was born on December 14, 2003. She worked for the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department and patrolled the halls of Daviess County High School for over 6 years. Deputy Russ Day was her handler and dad. Abby excelled in her job not only as a drug deterrent but also as a conversation starter. Through her years, students that would probably never want to speak to a Law Enforcement Officer would approach Deputy Day and Abby and start up a conversation. Abby was known throughout the entire state of KY and several other states for her extremely good nose and her drug detection abilities. I have always said “I will put Abby’s nose up against the best dog of any breed out there.” It was phenomenal! Abby started showing signs of a medical problem in her rear area which her vet seemed to think was a pinched nerve in her lower spine. She also had an injured front leg from a prior collision with another dog while playing. It finally got to the point Abby could not stand at all. Abby had been retired from the Sheriff’s Department for a bit. Abby’s end of watch was April 13th, 2015. She watched over Deputy Day’s family, Daviess Co. High School, and the entire community of Daviess County and did it extremely well. Abby loved to run and play with her reward toys and will be running and playing in Heaven for ever. Her work is done.
